Re: Audacity quits when trying to import mp3 files
The solution is to surround the listing with the code tags from the composition options at the top of the text entry window. You can do it manually, too. Bracket, the word "code", bracket, etc. Where are these sound files coming from? Can you download this short MP3 and open it? http://www...

Re: Different speeds on different computers
You apparently haven't done any of the tests yet. You may find that one or both of the computers is broken and damaging the signal. Then there is certainly something you can do. Fix the computers. You also didn't respond to the amount of error. If it's seconds off, you have a broken system. We're te...

Re: Quality Loss in Wav to Mp3 Conversion
See if the original WAV files will open in iTunes. Change iTunes preferences so conversions are done to MP3 instead of AAC wherever it is now. See if those don't sound better. Lame, the Audacity MP3 software is a work-alike, free program. iTunes and Apple have real, paid Fraunhofer Gesellschaft MP3 ...

Re: Recording Noise at 1000Hz and Intervals of 1KHz up to 10
Would perhaps using a separate, powered usb hub solve this? That's how we do it. It's not a shock that the USB power from your computer is "dirty" and putting clicks or whine in the show. The USB system is completely analog where your voice meets the 5 volts from the computer. Any problem...

Re: Accidentally recorded priceless interview in "mono" (ech
It sounds like you just recorded the camcorder microphone rather than the special microphone. That one will have picked up the room echo in addition to the performance. There may also be overload and clipping clicks in there in addition to the echo (which I don't think is that bad). I think the crun...

Re: Making multiple tracks into one (with equal volume)
1. To pick up where you ended, press Shift-R "Append Record" instead of regular record. That should not start a new track. Another way to produce those tracks is press Add Label when you make a fluff so you can find the error and edit it later -- and then don't stop. You can produce a labe...

Re: Are audacity podcasts greatly superior to Garageband?
You use the software package that gets the job done for you. If it requires learning a software package, then that's the task. If Garageband is getting the job done, then by all means continue using it. Were we able to resolve your problems in the other posting? We don't lose many people who write a...

Re: recording machine casette tape player problem
If you can see that the tape reels are going around much too fast in Play mode, then chances are the capstan -- the little rubber wheel inside that pulls the tape in Play -- is not engaging. The only thing left to move the tape when that happens is the tensioner motors which could go either directio...

Re: I just want a part of the audio
Do you want to create a stand-alone file with a portion of a show between two times, like between 3 minutes and 4 minutes? That's easy. Drag-select the portion you want and File > Export Selection. If you want an MP3, you need to install the lame software to do that. So which of those jobs do you wa...

Re: I just want a part of the audio
That's called Isolation. And yes, that's very rough to do. Under certain restricted conditions you can partially separate the lead singer in the left-right middle of a very high quality stereo show. That's about it. We can't take out the third violinist and put her in her own show. We don't do foren...
