Re: Which $60 Win XP/7 computer for new Voice Over actor?
I'm a Mac user and he's on Linux. I used to build Windows machines from parts but I eventually gave up the good fight and bought my first iBook used from a respected techie at work. I wore it out. After I got used to the Mac-isms, it was much easier to use than my Windows machines. I have Windows an...

Re: Ice breaking using Infrasound
Does an infrasound 'generator' exist that is directional (like a gun) and finite in distance ? ...and not a health hazard. Low frequency sounds, like an earthquake, are aggressively non-directional and spread out wherever they feel like it. They can cause health problems. More than one battlefield ...

Re: Which $60 Win XP/7 computer for new Voice Over actor?
We are composing a book segment called Tips and Techniques for Spoken Word Recording. Having a good voice and a quiet, echo free room are far more important than selecting a microphone or computer. A crappy track cannot be fixed in post production. We can't take the dog barking out later and we can'...

Re: use lame MP3 encoder with other software?
Can't you use lame by itself? It's a stand-alone program. I don't know how it works on modern Windows, but I remember I used it on earlier Windows without Audacity. Audacity may not be the best thing to use just to make an MP3 file. Audacity Exports always have a bit of noise added to them unless yo...

Re: Stereo Mix Recording-Birdlike Noise
It sounds like you have the sound pathways confused, and also you may be running into Windows Enhanced Services. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_recording_audio_playing_on_the_computer.html http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html#enhancements On some com...

Re: How can I bring out the guitar sound?
To do something to one instrument requires that you separate that instrument from the others. We can't do that. If the instrument is in the middle of a very high quality show, there is a really bad, complicated technique we can do by combining Vocal Removal and Noise Removal, but the results, while ...

Re: Different speeds on different computers
if I fix the delay at the end, in the middle there is still a delay. To add a few words, you got the beginning and end to match, and the middle is still off? It's very unlikely that the clock signals would change within one performance. They almost always go their own way consistently. What could d...

Re: 2.0.3 crashes on startup. Fixes don't work.
You have several very serious problems: The cross of PowerPC and OS-X 10.5.8 may have been convenient, but Final Cut (for one prominent example) will not cross the PowerPC/Intel boundary no matter which OS you use. I think QuickTime Services (as you point out) have trouble with that combination as w...
