Re: Distortion and drop-outs recording LPs

(but I recpaced the HD recently and it's less of a problem) Less of a problem, but it didn't go away? The SBBOD is the machine with a blue face gasping for air. When you start a process, MacOS allocates an expected time to completion. If the process goes over that in an unexpected way, you get the ...

Re: How best to interface with a MacBook Pro?

If you have a good, stand-alone turntable, your best bet is probably a USB Phono Preamp such as the Arts unit. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/USBPhonoPPS/ Also for less bux, Behringer makes the UFO-202 Photo Preamp that is not adjustable. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UFO202 That's ...

Re: Removing/smoothing a natrual voice crack/horse sound.

A common mistake in beginner audio production is use MP3 for everything because "everybody knows that's how it's done." It's not. MP3 and its cousins M4A, AAC, etc, are one-shot delivery formats for your iPod, not a step in the middle of audio production. Shoot everything to WAV, do your e...

Re: Removing/smoothing a natrual voice crack/horse sound.

We're doing a vocal recording piece here, but it's in progress. We do have pieces: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_mixing_a_narration_with_background_music.html http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Recording_live_sound:_Acoustic Initially, some of this was posted with no organization and ...

Re: Slight distortion when mixing 2 tracks?!

So you have one of these:

If you don't have a Blaster or one of the other common soundcard types, you'll need to install software drivers (usually from the maker) or your computer may have no idea how to run it.

Re: Auto-muting/soloing tracks on a podcast

I'm looking for a way to use a forgiving setup and then exclude its flaws in post-processing. Which, we admonish people every fifteen minutes, you can't actually do. There is no "clean it up later," and forum posts that start like that are almost universally doomed. You have to actually s...

Re: Can't Record Audio from Youtube

Have you read through the tutorial?

This is a very common problem and if it used to work, chances are you can make it work again.

Re: Cannot reveal "Stereo Mix" or "Line In"

Stereo-Mix is a dance between the operating system, the sound card and the soundcard drivers. If anybody drops the ball, then you're stuck with the alternate methods. Most Windows laptops can't easily do the hardware loop-through method, so the only thing left is install software that internally &qu...

Some Classic iPods appear on the desktop when mounted and you can Control-Click > Get INFO and tell that way.

Re: Auto-muting/soloing tracks on a podcast

http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/lavalier2.jpg That's why many interview shows do this. Rachel Maddow is a good class on audio. She has a noise gate on her live microphone because it seems they're broadcasting from a loading dock instead of a proper studio. You can hear the gate pumping and everyt...
