Re: Audacity 2.4.1 - turn up the gain?
What's the microphone? Most home microphones come out of the box quiet. They always produce some show and the performer always thinks they're doing something wrong like you're doing. If the microphones were sold with normal or hot sound, they would produce instant annoying distortion and make you wa...

Re: Hollow sounding vo
Please don't double post. Like talking into a wine glass? Like a milk jug? That could be automatic noise reduction or echo cancellation and it could be coming from Windows or Skype, Zoom, or a Chat program, even if they're turned off. Some microphones and some interfaces can do that. What's the setu...

Re: Audacity Mastering Process for ACX
To be crystal clear here, I note two problems. The noise, tone, or hum thing seems to be solvable by just recording at night. As a separate problem, your voice volume isn't stable. As noted above in the messages, your two sample sound files are way different in volume. That's not good news. That can...

Re: Flute note not recorded after about 1.8 seconds
Automatic voice processing sees any sounds longer than a set time as interference and gets rid of it. This is not dreadful if you're trying to be heard in a multi-point Skype or Zoom, but as you're finding, it hates music. Windows can do this by itself, or communications or conferencing programs can...

I think Audacity is limited to mono and stereo playback.

Re: hissing on recording
That big Volume knob. That's for speakers or headphones. Doesn't affect the show. According to the instructions, you should be able to make good volume with just the stuff you have. I have no personal experience with either the microphone or the interface. It's important that you can make the green ...

Re: hissing on recording
Let's see. You should have the DI (Direct In) knob all the way down. Monitor Mix knob at INPUT. Mic Gain should be wherever it needs to be to make the meter -12 and -18 green lights light up most of the time with a very brief appearance of the -6 yellow light every so often. Is that how it's working...

What was that like before you applied corrections? Really tiny blue waves? Post some of the raw performance.

Re: Can't select iMac speakers or headphone jack for output/playback
"Built-in Output" That should be the speakers unless you plug wired headphones into the Mac, and then it should switch to them. If you don't have wired headphones, then it can get a lot more entertaining. Also if you have any redirection or other sound software, then there can be conflict...
