Re: Which $60 Win XP/7 computer for new Voice Over actor?

Sony MDR-7506. I can't personally recommend them because I've never heard them in operation, but they are the unquestioned darlings of movie-making. Before you get all excited, it's entirely possible that they have the best sound isolation or are the most comfortable and have nothing to do with the ...

Re: Which $60 Win XP/7 computer for new Voice Over actor?

Ah, yes. I begin to see the problem. The Koss Pro4AA are terrific headphones, but it's like wearing an all-terrain vehicle on each ear. Not for the long haul, although I know people who mix on them. I think they hire someone to hold their head up. Koss makes a Pro3AA and those are a little easier on...

Re: Help with equalizing audio

So now you get to tell us what we're correcting. I got ride of the harshness by suppressing tones around 3000. I "took the foam pad off" by boosting tones from 7000 and higher. This is what my equalizer looks like:

Re: Which $60 Win XP/7 computer for new Voice Over actor?

Can you send us pictures of the front and back of the machine? We can get quite a bit from that. No, oddly, you don't need a soundcard to get the show from your USB microphone into Audacity, but you may need one to hear what you did later. "Soundcard" means any device that can handle compu...

Re: AIFF files will not play on iPod, will on iTunes

This version of the iPod software (3.1.1) is the current version. I'm not shocked that the earlier versions had trouble with sophisticated file management. Remember how cutting edge these things were. When these were designed, AAC was still crawling on the floor wetting its nappies. As posted earli...

Re: Apogee Duet 2 Won't Show Up in Device List

In general, Audacity will not look for any devices after it starts. Restarting Audacity after you plug something in can work wonders as can Transport > Rescan Audio Devices if you don't feel like waiting.

Re: AIFF files will not play on iPod, will on iTunes

My newer iPod is a Touch -- I think the first one. Apple picks a number, I think generally two major versions and then stops support. My older iPod dropped out of support years ago, but my Touch dropped relatively quickly because the first Touch didn't have a camera. I remember when I bought it, I w...

Re: Filters to match volume levels

I don't know that I ever heard Brick Wall sound very good, but that would get rid of the peaks. Please note that the loud performance is almost a solid block of blue where the quieter performance has variations, moving levels, expression and theatrical interpretation. Compression is about the only w...

Re: Help with equalizing audio

You should try another test without the foam stocking over the microphone. I think part of my correction was to make the foam go away. You should be doing that.

Re: Help with equalizing audio

Am I going the right direction? The first five seconds are plain you and everything after that is corrected.
