Re: Audacity quits abnormally when S/PDIF stops while record
I know this is going to be no help, but I think the Mini is the error. One sure way to dig a hole with Audacity's face is to unplug the USB or Firewire cable when Audacity is standing on it. Audacity is a complete slave to the computer that's running it. It will try to lock to what ever comes down t...

Re: Adding sound effects to a music track
Not a problem. Yes, they need to be on separate tracks. Open the music bed. Import the two effects tracks and they will appear one on top of the other. If you play right now, all three will play at once. You can adjust this with the MUTE and SOLO buttons to the left of each track. Use the Time Shift...

Re: Recording online sources using external soundcard
Self recording is a delicate dance between the operating system, the sound card and the support or driver software. All three have to work for "internet" recording to happen. Also note that self recording is not a guaranteed service like running the mouse and making the screen light up. So...

Re: Which $60 Win XP/7 computer for new Voice Over actor?
To recap. You said the computer had " 2 in and 1 out" (or something like that) sound from a reading of the instructions. Someone else commented that the phrase probably meant a recording connection that automatically switched between Line and Microphone as needed depending on what was plug...

Re: Audacity quits abnormally when S/PDIF stops while record
I doubt it. S/PDIF is a very close cousin to the AES-EBU broadcast bitstream and you can't interrupt one of those at all without very serious resyncing and possible show damage.
Someone will correct me.

I think it normally quits.Audacity application abnormally quits

Re: sound quality is poor
Any second compression compresses the damage from the first compression. Each compressing step adds damage to the one before it and you can sometimes minimize it, but MP3, AAC, etc. all add damage when they work, and you can't stop it. Never do production in MP3 or other compressed format. Working i...

Boy are THEY going to get a great review on ebay! [Cringe] Let me read this back to you. The company sends you a non-working machine and you're happy? How long were you struggling with it? My glowing reviews happen when they send me something working first time out. You should write a review just t...

Re: Which $60 Win XP/7 computer for new Voice Over actor?
Don't fall in love with that shared connection even though it would seem to be a really good idea. The built-in connections for a Windows Laptop generally aren't winning very many awards for quality right out of the gate and the shared ones tend to combine the worst qualities of the worst ones. Ever...

as well as them having been positively reviewed online. You don't look for the positive reviews, you look for the negative ones. "I think this product is the best thing since sliced bread and canned beer and I should know because I'm a good friend of the people who built it and are selling it....

Re: USB Sound Card
It's not just a mono soundcard. It's a headphone and microphone soundcard and the microphone part is mono. That's normal. It's not broken. Even if you did manage to connect it, the sound quality will be terrible because it will be running in overload. Microphone sound is far smaller and delicate tha...
