Re: need help setting up guitar and uca202 to my laptop for.
If you want to do fancy overdubbing later, then you're going to need that UCA-202 headphone output, so yes, this adapter... http://www.tovvs.com/en/3-5mm-stereo-female-to-two-rca-stereo-male-y-cable.html Plus one of these. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/stereoJumper.jpg Should get you from t...

That's a little broad for a one or two sentence answer. Start down this wiki entry and let us know where you get stuck.

Re: recording level needs to be between -6db to 0db
The reason we always say that is if you're too low, the natural noise in the system (hiss, buzz) will be a significant part of your show. If you're too high, overload and "clipping" damage (crackling, crunch) will destroy your show. Can you please tell how to set my input level at the desi...

Re: need help setting up guitar and uca202 to my laptop for.
i didnt realize how complicated sound recording is. And you haven't even started recording your voice yet. i figured that buying uca202 well suit my simple needs. And you're probably right. The simplest analog hookup has your guitar 1/4" out plugged into the RCA Left Line-In of the UCA-202. Th...

Dalek speak from Doctor Who. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGLgnshYSWQ You could try Effect > Vocoder. You might run into another very common problem. Much of the performance is theatrical reading, not just applying a filer. You can't start with Aunt Minnie reading a list of ingredients for a cake ...

Windows Media isn't MP3 and lame only deals with MP3. You also need to download and install the FFMpeg software.

Re: will not record unless software playthrough is on
Do you like to record Internet Audio? Some of those settings fight music recording and overdubbing. One of the first things our overdubbing tutorials do is make you do a simple, plain recording. If you can't do that, then overdubbing will drive you nuts. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial...

Yes, you saw where I was going with that. The original system couldn't find the FFMpeg libraries.
On the drive thing, we need two numbers: Drive Size and Amount Used. For example, "I have enough" and "There is plenty" are not good answers.

Re: Newbie trying to record voice and instrument on laptop
That's the difference between damage to the show and damage to the connection. If you do nothing but press Record, the noises and clicking are still there, right? Yes, totally, buzz and hum that plagues a normal analog guitar system didn't magically go away when you went digital. I know it's a stand...
