Re: Failing ACX check because Noise floor is TOO low. Need help!
It seems weird that my background noise can be too low. ACX wants your background noise to be "natural." -96dB background noise or quieter is impossible for a well behaved, normal voice recording system. That usually means you have voice or sound processing running somewhere during your r...

What do other people use to do the same thing? Do you have an existing good quality cassette player? Before The Sickness it was possible to get a simple, affordable adapter to go from the cassette player to your computer. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/peaveyUCA202Lenovo-650.jpg This is on...

Re: Complete ignoramus re audio stuff, trying to do audio books. Part 1
I had to take out the memory card and plug it into a converter to move the recording onto the computer with both recordings, so absolutely sure on that one. That certainly works, but it's not the best idea. That puppy is going to wear out. It wasn't designed for constant motion. It should be possib...

Re: Complete ignoramus re audio stuff, trying to do audio books. Part 1
See how easy this is to go off the rails? About six messages back, you introduced a separate microphone and it went right by me. So you weren't plugging the Roland into a computer as a microphone device instead of as a recorder. You used the Roland built-in 'Left' microphone recorded on the Roland, ...

Re: Complete ignoramus re audio stuff, trying to do audio books. Part 1
Inbuilt is the Roland by itself sitting on the desk and ExtMic is the Roland plugged into a laptop and recorded in Audacity. Right? We may get to play "where's the microphone." They're different enough that I don't think both of them came from the Roland. You can find out yourself with th...

sometimes speak too fast for your accent Oh. That's good (writing that down). I'm not dismissing it out of hand. You can match your speaking style with the material. There is nothing like the Mark Twain stories read in a region appropriate accent. the walls are lined with bookshelves and boxes Perf...

Re: Hollow sounding vo
Neewer makes several of these. Which one do you have? The Neewers seem to be side-address microphones. Speak into the side grill just up from the company name. If you're doing this wrong, the microphone can pick up the room reverberation and sound pretty bad. Record a quick sound test according to t...

Don't tell anybody what equipment you're using. "Stand alone sound recorder" is good.

whether I would be able to produce to ACX quality with this equipment. It's been my experience we can produce good quality voice work with remarkably modest equipment as long as it's all happening in a quiet, echo-free room. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/ZoomH1nTechnicalSetup.jpg The ACX ...

Re: Useless Videos
Is Audacity the wrong program for me? Yes. No question. What you want is to walk into a recording studio, perform your songs and have the Recording Engineer capture them. Then, the Engineer and your Producer will post and master them and submit them for publication. And send you a bill. No matter w...
