Re: What would you do to punch up the audio in this track?
Sounds like AM radio. I don't think you get there from here. That's been AM Radio Transmitter compressed and no musical tones over 5000Hz. I'm guessing. There doesn't seem to be any way to download any of the music to test it. There are expander packages that can simulate the original performance vo...

Since "Everybody Knows" you need to have Noise Reduction, I applied gentle reduction to your piece and got this. Screen Shot 2020-08-30 at 3.16.26 PM.png Drag-select a portion of the quiet Room Tone at the beginning and Effect > Noise Reduction > Profile. Then select everything and apply N...

That does work, but it sounds of recording in a box rather than clear tones. You might try one with folded over towels or blankets on the table. I think I'm listening to your green linoleum tabletop. This is the formula for a Kitchen Table Sound Studio. https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p...

Re: External hard drive crash
A reliable company will give you a free estimate after you send them your drive. Which still may not help. I don't know if you've ever had a recovery before, but you don't get back to where you were. Depending on the damage, you may get back most of the content, but with scrambled filenames. In the...

Re: External hard drive crash
The _DATA folders contain all your sound in six second snippets. The AUP file is a listing of how Audacity should arrange the snippets for your production. There is no reliable way to construct the shows without both.

There's a fuzzy rule that if you get something to work, hold onto it with white knuckles. DO NOT update anything until you finish the book or current project.

Re: Complete ignoramus re audio stuff, trying to do audio books. Part 1
There is a very real version of this kind of error in Audacity 2.4.2. When you apply Audacity Audiobook Mastering, the middle step is Loudness Normalization... . Except the tool settings are RMS (proper for an audiobook) on the left, but LUFS (appropriate for a podcast) on the right. You can't have ...

When you quote existing text, drag-select the text and click the quote button, fourth from the left. That will post in a different colour and make it easier to read. Or you can actually type the markup commands manually, like this: Screen Shot 2020-08-30 at 8.28.18 AM.png The bracketed word on the l...

Re: Hollow sounding vo
You should only be using one microphone at a time—and know which one it is. Sometimes that's not obvious.

Re: Frustration X2
I found a full service Teac stereo cassette machine at my local Council Thrift Shop. $20 USD. Of course, the problem is I had to go to the Council Thrift Shop to find it. And "going" is kind of a problem right now.
