Re: Separating similar sounds
No, not if the sounds are happening at the same time. That's CSI forensics and it happens a lot better in television scripts than it does in real life. This is the same problem as people trying to understand one conversation in a field of two or more, pulling one of the violins from an orchestra, cl...

Re: How to get rid of the 'bumps' in the joined audio tracks
Give us the audacity times of the disturbances. We believe you that there are bumps in the sound at the edit points. Since only you know where you put the edits, inspect them and make sure they conform to those rules. I see serious data error gaps (illustration). That short flat spot isn't supposed ...

Re: Subtracting one audio track from another
Sure. Not a problem. Import both tracks and they will appear one above the other -- and most importantly, they will both play when you press the spacebar. They add up in this case. You can play one or the other with the SOLO and MUTE buttons to the left of each track. Select the noise track by doubl...

Re: How to remove ambient noise?
How did you resolve the issue so quickly when it took me hours and still couldn't arrive to the solution?! The setting you illustrated worked perfectly! We've been doing this a long time. You have to have a feel for what the sliders do and it's not simple. wouldn't the sound pop if it's too loud or...

Re: [HELP] Noise remover
One of the other elves had trouble with the new Noise Reducer, too. I don't remember what the solution was. I know they work in very different ways and you can't adjust the new one to work like the old one. I was very surprised to find people who actually liked the old one. I never got it to work ri...

Re: intermittent 'silences' on recordings
How intermittent and how short?

Win7 takes up a lot more of your machine than XP did. Does your machine qualify for Win7? Just barely won't do it. You have to have enough machine left over to also do live audio.

Re: Electric effect
You can record your voice making "zit" sounds (first clip) and then combine that with white noise in Effect > Vocoder (second cip).
The settings I used are the third illustration.
You can mess with the settings to get different effects.

You can get that problem if your speakers or sound system has a problem.
Download and play this short sound test. You should be able to hear all four segments and in the right place although the last one may sound a little funny.

Re: Why is a .data folder created when recording?
AUP isn't a sound file. It's a text file. It's got words in it, not music. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/aup1.jpg You can open yours up in a text editor and read it. Yours will be harder to read. I edited mine for the illustration. You can export an MP3 directly from Audacity without either the AUP...

Re: Possible to improve quality for 8khz 16bit mono recordin
The maximum clarity of spoken word you can get with 8KHz sample rate is 4KHz, just above the maximum telephone voice frequency of 3KHz (actually, slightly less). You may be able to do slightly better by tilting the frequency response so the voice is a little sharper. Effect > Equalization You're nev...
