Re: Low displayed level but recording clipped
Old MacBooks had a Microphone In connection and not Stereo Line-In like the later ones. I bet your connections don't look like this: http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MacLineIn.jpg Microphone connections have a super sensitive microphone preamplifier as a first thing after the connection and it...

Re: appending audio
Do you have your Caps-Lock key on? I can't think of a reason Shift+R wouldn't work. The segment in the instructions is for the Transport Toolbar specifically, not the button functions, so in that sense, it does leave you out in the cold. I'll talk to the other elves and see if there's anything we ca...

Re: appending audio
It would be helpful to have in the Help material some advice on this. Probably not because we're hoping it's only broken for you. I've never heard of that not working. You've been using the buttons in the control panel to Record, Stop and Pause. Start recording normally and press the "p" ...

Re: automatic hum removal for speech
Have you tried the Noise Removal tool? It doesn't sound like you have. It appears terrific reading outside of the box, but when you get it home you find it has to be tuned not only for each profile, but each application, too. "How come Noise Removal makes my voice sound honky and bubbly when I ...

Re: Increasing or Boosting Volume
Audacity's compressor was designed to solve a specific math problem. Chris's compressor was designed so he could listen to opera in the car. Both succeeded.

Re: Audacity skipping
You didn't say "Windows 8 on a new, powerful computer." Skipping and holes in the performance are generally because the computer can't keep up. If you're overdubbing, the machine has to maintain perfect, real-time playback of the original track and perfect, real-time recording of your voic...

Re: Unable to imort Italk Isync audio to audacity
I would have guessed the FFMpeg libraries myself. FFMpeg is the system that allows Audacity to open and manage many different advanced audio formats.

Yes. "Recording audio playing on the computer." At base, it runs the play and record portions of the computer at the same time. People see it as "I want to record YouTube," (full stop) like it's a YouTube recording tool. It's not. Youtube can be on the play side and Audacity on t...

Re: Error while opening sound device. Please check the inpu
Also, I visited the URL of the page you gave, it's very confusing there. You need to dig through it. That tells you what to set all the selectors for in the Windows versions. Recording Devices, Hidden Services, etc. etc Windows is now a corporate communications service, not a generic computer like ...
