Re: Low displayed level but recording clipped

Don't give up yet. Time for particulars. Allen & Heath makes a number of mixers. Which one have you got and how do you have it connected? My iMic had a mini stereo plug and I would have used a cable like this for my mixer connection. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/RCAMiniStereo.jpg http://ww...

Re: Normalize doesn't work all the time

You need to do Pop Removal and other noise processing before you Normalize. Normalize and its cousin Amplify work on the single highest blue wave. If that happens to be an explosive cat hair pop on the record, that's the end of the tool working right. We wrote about transferring vinyl. http://manual...

Re: Horrible chopping sound and sudden changes in mike gain

Yes, be sure to turn off Windows Enhanced Services to keep the echo cancellation from messing things up. That's a big one. Always wear sealed headphones when you live record. Some microphone systems need the Microphone Boost selected to get good sound levels. My voice goes through sound-proofed wall...

Re: Low displayed level but recording clipped

Yes. Put the iMic in a dusty box in the garage like I did. Audacity has no provision to affect the show as it is recorded. It's a Frequently Requested Feature, but nothing so far. Overloading like that almost always happens in Analog Land and you have the classic damage cause by an analog mixer and ...

Re: automatic hum removal for speech

We don't have a good feel for the shows. You have multiple shows with exactly the same hum? In that case you won't need the automated Profile Capture. I think you can get Chains to apply Noise Removal right now without further programming. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/chains_for_batch_proces...

I'm not a fan of the iMic products. In my experience they don't do any of their switchable jobs particularly well. Koz

Re: I don't know what to do...

You can't separate voices from a sound shoot. Once you shoot it wrong it's almost impossible to recover into a radio or podcast show, and sometimes you can't even understand the person speaking. This American Life radio show has very good web postings on how to "make radio." http://www.thi...

Re: Low displayed level but recording clipped

If your settings say Microphone and nothing else, then you may need to add a Stereo input to your Mac with a UCA202 or equivalent.
