Re: recording as separate tracks

If you stop Audacity and start it up again, it will stack music one on top of the other and all play at once. What you are intended to do is record the vinyl straight through and break up the songs later using the Label tools. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_copying_tapes_lps_or_minidi...

Re: headset does not display in preferences:recording device

If your Mac connections look like this... http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MacLineIn.jpg And you plugged your analog headset into those two connections, then Built-In-Input (and possibly built-in Microphone) are the only connections you have. USB headsets announce themselves digitally over the...

Re: Loudness Variation Between Songs Problem

I wonder about Sound Check. I listen to spoken word podcasts all the time on an iPod (oddly enough) and I'm constantly plagued with the missing broadcast compressor. Radio stations have to maintain strict volume limits, so they all have serious sound processing that makes sure of compliance. Downloa...

Re: Isolating a sound such as a......

I used the envelope tool (two white arrows and bent blue line) to create this earthquake effect from the above brown noise and filters. The picture is what the timeline looks like.

Re: Isolating a sound such as a......

I would not look at YouTube as a paragon of good quality sound. YouTube presentations are Flash Video which compresses the audio and if the original performer used MP3, then the sound has been compressed twice, adding damage each time. Open Audacity. Generate > Noise: brown, 0.8 level, ten seconds. ...

Re: Crackles

Are you using an external USB drive? That's discouraged. You can use an external drive to store stuff, but the drive management is usually too slow for live audio. You covered all the usual suspects when you had the problem with both USB microphone and built-in microphone. That's pages of troublesho...

Re: Crackles

It's worth checking that you have Windows Enhanced Services turned off.

But I don't for a minute think that's what it is.

Re: Crackles

My guess is your computer can't keep up with the work. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html#skips It doesn't have to be skips, it can be periodic noises, pops or clicks. Recording puts a very serious strain on a computer. It can't "hold on for a second" w...

Re: Can I use Audacity to record in 16 bit / 44.1 kHz wav fo

You can tell Audacity to capture at 44100, 16-bit, Stereo and then Audacity accepts the work after converting internally to 44100, 32-bit floating, Stereo. When you Export the work, you can down-convert to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo WAV and if you turn off the conversion tools, the process is completely ...

Re: Direct audactiy output to airplay device?

Audacity doesn't stream. It will play to your headphones or any other playback device, or it will send a file. Very few other options. If the airport express device "looks like" a speaker, then it should work. If airport express is expecting to be able to turn the playback on and off or co...
