Re: Best Audacity config for low freq recording project ?
You can leave Audacity running with: Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording > [X] Sound Activated Recording. Every time there's a sound over the threshold, Audacity will turn on and record it. Audacity has no provision for Time Of Day metadata, so what you're likely to get is all your noise insta...

Re: Multi clips from different sources/adjust & Balance leve
One of the nice things about Chris's software is it takes a lot of the work out of your hands -- similar to a broadcast compressor. Nobody is going to drive up the hill to adjust the transmitter compressors for each song. It has to be set and checked every couple of months to make sure it didn't bre...

Re: Ringing/Feedback Sounds
If the computer is causing the problems, there is a relatively cheap way out. Buy a wall-powered USB hub and put the Focusrite on that and the hub into the computer. The power to run the Focusrite and the microphone will then come from the hub and the wall, not the computer. The trick is you can't u...

Re: Ringing/Feedback Sounds
- I have yet to try another computer, I'm workin' on that. I have plugged it into all of my USB ports on this computer, though (some of them don't even work, but I think that's an HP issue). Let me read that back to you. "The computer has known broken USB ports, but that can't possibly be what...

Yeah. Disk space isn't infinite. "It worked for years and suddenly stopped" is a flag on both the video and audio forums.

Re: Saved as file
Your color tags were damaged, so I removed them. Audacity doesn't save sound files. To make a WAV sound file you have to File > Export one. During the Export dialog, you get to choose which file type you want. Audacity defaults to Microsoft WAV. Also, Windows hides the .wav extension, so you may hav...

Re: Audacity 2.0.5 release candidate 1 available for testing
I can install two different Audacity versions by calling one of them a different name, right? That's not going to cause chaos? I rather like 2.0.3 for actual work. Koz

Re: How to get back exact quality?
A WAV file at 44100, 16-bit, Stereo has a bitrate of about 1410. How did my 12mb MP4 become a 52MB WAV?? I would expect it to be worse than that. I would expect up in the hundreds. 120MB or so. It depends on how aggressive the operator was when they made the compressed file. It's a shock when people...

Re: Is it possible to edit playback time?
The key is "Slightly." These tools taken to extremes all start sounding funny -- like that rapid-fire disclaimer at the end of a medicine commercial. These are the tools you can use if you shot separate sound for your movie and the sound recorder wasn't completely in sync.

Re: Ringing/Feedback Sounds
My guess was 3911, not 3901. That's one of the answers that Analyze > Plot Spectrum gave me, and yes, I suspected that there were multiple peaks from the odd behavior of the cursor. So I just launched the Plot Spectrum Magnifier Tool and ..... Oh, wait. Plot Spectrum doesn't have a magnifier tool. D...
