Re: Strange file sizes of AUP
If you did any effects at all or anything that changes the whole lecture, then Audacity has to save an UNDO of the whole show. If you close Audacity, that should go away because Audacity will not save UNDO. You should go into Audacity Preferences and make sure that it didn't slide into stereo instea...

Re: Suggestions for cheap 24-bit sound recording card
Most of that list will only run at 16 bit -- which is not dreadful. That's the bit depth of Music CDs and broadcast television. You may discover that the search for 24-bit compatible equipment is going to require considerable effort. That and you'll have to stay 24-bit in your music archives. 24-bit...

Re: Removing Higher Frequencies
The middle of all the range of frequencies that you can hear is about 400. So removing everything above 349 is essentially removing all sound. You can try this with the built-in tools. Effect > Hi Pass Filter: 18dB and choose your frequency. You usually can't split a performance up into individual i...

Re: ONLY LEFT CHANNEL RECORDS
What are you recording and how is it connected? Did you use the Mic-In (pink) on the side of your laptop? http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/PCLaptopSound.jpg Mic-In unless you have a celebrity laptop is mono. It will only ever give you one sound channel, generally Left. Some machines split that...

Re: Splits in a file
You can automate this using Export Multiple and Labels. Go through and set labels at each of the break points. Don't forget a label at the very beginning. Then File > Export Multiple and Audacity will create separate MP3 files, one after each label. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/splitting_a_r...

Re: Automatic removal of mouth smacks
for removal of FM hiss, to use a notch filter? You can get rid of almost all FM hiss by dropping stereo. Does your receiver do that? Mono FM is remarkably hiss and interference free. I had a very old Dynaco receiver that would drop stereo with a switch. It's amazing what 20dB less noise will do for...

Re: Scarlett 2i2 question
Here's a link to a recording I finished editing today. First time I ever heard that in flat, minor, seventh, diminished four times jazz progression. How are you recording the piano? I mean exactly how. Whatever you're doing seems to work perfectly. If your machine really is starved for resources, t...

Re: Scarlett 2i2 question
Audacity checks for devices when it starts. If you plug something in late, you can restart or Transport > Rescan. Audacity is a simple audio program and likes running on simple computers. It works just fine on both WinXP and Win7, so if you're having problems, it sounds like speed and resource strug...
