Re: Powered Monitors?
No, but the idea of "stereo" is two identical sound channels. If you listen/watch a theatrical presentation where the lead singer goes from one side to the other, you may get a noticeable shift in tone. The (matched) speakers I'm using sound better to me than the next model larger. I took ...

Re: recorded song will not play back
Check Audacity Preferences and make sure Audacity is trying to play to your speakers.
Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Devices > Playback.

Re: Overdubbed by mistake
Many Audacity tools stop working if you PAUSE rather than Stop.
Next time you do this, Pause the recording and set up for the next session (don't touch the computer while Audacity is in Pause), or Stop and use Append Record (Shift-R) to jam the new recording at the end of the old one.

Re: Overdubbed by mistake
If you stopped Audacity dead and started it up again, Audacity would have started a new track directly under the old one. They will both play at the same time unless you tell them not to. That's not overdubbing unless you set that up for your guitar solos earlier in the week. Use the SOLO and MUTE b...

Re: Some newb questions...
Cool. As we go. The recording has a pronounced resonance bump around 300Hz. That may be a combination of the mic and the room. I got rid of it with Effect > Equalize and designed a filter that looks like the illustration. Now that I'm on a grownup sound system, I can tell you're overloading the crap...

Re: Some newb questions...
Forget Noise Reduction. Noise Reduction attacks the background noises and the show. The object is to suppress the noise without making the show sound too bad. It's not "click and all the noise goes away." Unless you're doing an a capella recording, nobody is going to notice a little backgr...

Re: Some newb questions...
To me it sounds "muddy" for lack of better descriptive words. I think it just sounds out of balance. If I didn't already know what the song was, I wouldn't be able to understand half the words because they get lost behind the instruments. I would probably split the vocal from everything e...

Re: PITCH OF VOICE PROBLEM
The computer has little clock chips governing its behavior, too. We don't know what's wrong. You can use the sweep second hand on a wall clock or the Time Check or stopwatch on your cellphone. I'm not a stopwatch fan because then you have to build your reaction time into the measurement. Just do it ...
