Do you use Skype? If so, your microphone might be filtering itself through Skype processing before Audacity gets to it. Apparently Skype isn't so easy to turn off. There's a Dilbert comic about it.

What you are supposed to do is put a label at the front of each song. Control-B, I think, or Tracks > Add Label. Then File > Export Multiple. Each label should present a stand-alone sound file with the music associated with it on the timeline. Is that what you did?

Telephone/cellphone recordings are not simple. How are you doing the recordings? Software on the cellphone? I use an Olympus TP-7 microphone with adapters or TP-8 microphone.
