Re: Minimum processing requirement to use Audacity

MacBook Airs are fancy-pants iPods. Not used for serious production. The portability and lightness are what cost the bux and people run into production horsepower problems very quickly. http://www.kozco.com/pictures/boothFinished/mixer.jpg That's a heavy as a Buick, lead-lined MacBook Pro that I've ...

Re: My Recording Setup: Improvements?

While you're deciding how to proceed, you should never do production in MP3. The file sizes are attractive, but the quality loss in multiple edits is not. It's fairly common for producers to obsess about audio tones that only dogs shorter than 18" (45cm) can hear, but the most bang for the buck...

Re: Getting iOS devises to recognize recordings from the clo

I don't know that you need AAC. You only need that if you plan on copy protecting your work or including a lot of detailed metadata. MP3 should work just fine, and you can do that right out of Audacity. Mount your iPad, iPod or other device on your Mac with the interconnect or USB cable. The device ...

Re: Search for words in a digitized recording

Audacity has no tools or effects that I know of to search for spoken words. Most of the tools are "dumb" programs. They have no idea of content. This kills people trying to separate mixed performances into many solos. Audacity has no idea what a violin or a voice is and because of harmonic...

Re: windows 8.1

Windows likes to record like you were using Skype and play back like you were in a theater. The default settings have been hostile to plain, ordinary recording for several versions now.

Re: how to save a recording process after timer recording

We should be careful to avoid the Friedel Cycle.

We need a tool to do A. It would be nice if it also did B while you're in there. A and B sort of demands the addition of the C tool, but we don't have time or talent for all of that so we won't do anything.

That's the circle and two black arrows.

Close Audacity.
Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input. The sound device has to show up there before Audacity can get to it.

So 2.0.3 to 2.0.4 created the problem. 2.0.5 is current.

How are you recording the work? Track it back from the microphone.

Here it is.

It may not work if you have hours and hours of work. You my need to split the show up into smaller segments.

Re: Workflow Question - Concert Recording - What do you sugg

If you have recognizable music now, then it should be simple filters and cutting to get to your MP3s. You should make very high quality, finished WAVs first, and then burn the MP3s from that. You can't cleanly edit an MP3, so if your masters are MP3, all you can do is listen, no further production. ...
