Re: Microphone for noisy environment?
Noise Gate. Nice try. You're hitting all the high points. There is a noise gate on a newscaster's microphone because they record on a loading dock. I'm not sure if it's actually a loading dock or not, but it certainly sounds like one. She has an aggressive speaking style and can talk over almost an...

Re: Microphone for noisy environment?
I did a review on the ES-58. It's an SM-58 knock-off getting as close to the design as possible without getting the lawyers involved. It's slighter "hotter" with a more forward, aggressive sound, but both the SM58 and the ES58 are straight cardioid microphones and will receive sound from t...

http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/UniversalPodcast-I.jpg That thing on the left is an AKG C555L. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/C555L It's an XLR microphone whose claim to fame is to make the room vanish. It does take a 9 volt battery and the instructions claim it will run from 48v Phan...

Re: Unclear voice
I prepared a sound clip. It's my laptop microphone turned all the way up. The noise at the end is street sounds and me walking.

Re: Unclear voice
If you turn off Windows enhancements, even a low level recording should just sound low , not completely destroyed. Low level recordings may have hiss on them, but that's normal for microphones that don't have a strong voice -- or the voice is a distance away. Stand across the room and talk in a norm...

Re: Transport control panel activation
Let's take it in order. When I start Audacity, it arrives with its full work window empty and I click on Transport, get the Transport window and then click on Record and Audacity a split second later goes into Record.

Re: Advise me for Audio Book & ScreenCasting Narration Video
There is one problem with USB microphones that was revealed in several posts recently. Condenser microphones require power to operate. Unlike ribbon or dynamic (moving coil) microphones, condensers all have electronics inside. They can be designed to run from an actual battery you have to buy and in...

Free Itunes for both Windows and Mac has a MP3 license built-in. Change the "CD Import" setting to MP3.

Re: Advise me for Audio Book & ScreenCasting Narration Video
Please excuse my poor technical knowledge and mistakes because I am totally new to these stuffs. We're going to get you to write technical descriptions for the forum. Are you sure you've never done this before? I wrote two live performance answers that may help a little. The microphone and connecti...

Re: Which Microphone
There are some general rules: USB microphones are aggressively unexpandable. You use it the way it was designed (within 6 feet of the computer) or you don't. There are no options. XLR microphones are designed to plug into a sound mixer or microphone amplifier. Once you have the mixer, you can buy mu...
