Re: Vocoder help
The result I get does sound on 440Hz, but I can't understand the phrase I'm saying. Right. Because 440-based voice is far, far worse than honky telephone sound. Try mixing some of your original sound with the vocoder voice. Another possibility is mix the vocoder voice with the main voice filtered w...

Re: Microphone Volume super low with whitenoise?
I would expect that to work. Can you make it worse? If it is working a little, can you make it much worse by turning the gain control down ? Is the microphone volume low, or is the noise level super high (or both)? If you're on a Mac: Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Inpu...

A note that this isn't a "help desk." It's a forum and you should post back if your friend figures out a way to do it -- other than the way we did itThank you again for your help!!

Re: Is Chris 1.2.6 still the best?
And yes, Look-Ahead is the problem at the top and bottom of the clip. At the beginning, Look Ahead presets the compression compared to a clip that isn't there yet, and at the end the gain used to blast off because the show sound would "mysteriously" drop to zero. I don't remember any more ...

Re: Is Chris 1.2.6 still the best?
The particular application I have is a spoken word podcast/broadcast (plus telephone voices and music) by two people who have an enormous range between "mumbling in one's beer" and a thermo-nuclear laugh. Whereas the squashed radio broadcast is perfectly enjoyable in the car, the podcast i...

Re: Is Chris 1.2.6 still the best?
The Dolby Corporation made its name by designing a compressor/expander system that you couldn't hear working. It was exactly symmetrical and in its "A" version made tape overdubbing possible because the 10dB noise boost that resulted was precisely the 10dB suppression that Dolby offered. W...

Re: Is Chris 1.2.6 still the best?
I have said for a while now that properly applied Chris Compressor can solve all your Spoken Word Standards problems in one swoop. I have never noticed the beginning and end problem, but I'm trying to remember if I cut both of those off anyway each time I use it. I know it was a very serious issue w...

Focusrite SCARLETT-2I2 $149.99 We have had complaints about this device. Search the forum. I think it has to do with making it run at all, not the quality of the performance once it is running. I believe this is another non-mixer USB Device. Whatever you plug into Microphone #1 is going to appear o...

Sony 7506 - Closed Ear Headphone MDR-7506 $99.99 There is a story about this. I spoke to one of the Hollywood sound people and asked him if I could listen to his 7506 headphones. Of course he has a set. They all do, and he's on his fourth pair. He said yes and I went over to their office with a bag...
