Re: Using Compression while recording?
If we didn't say this in so many words, the compressor reduces the difference between low and high sounds. Pretty much exactly what you need. This is an illustration of two different settings of Chris's Compressor. Normal sound on top, default settings and then more firm settings. Note the differenc...

Re: Using Compression while recording?
Audacity doesn't do anything in real time except record, play and a timer. the quieter parts of the recording are barely audible. That's where you apply compressors or other effects in post production. Quiet performances can be a minor inconvenience, but overload and clipping is usually fatal. http:...

Re: stereo mix by reducing vocals
Did you a word out?
I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you trying to produce a 5.1 surround collection of tracks from a stereo show?

Re: Can't choose "mono" option
when I hooked up an external mic to my camcorder. Dig in your instructions. Does your camcorder feature provisions for a stereo microphone? Many camcorders do. So as far as the camcorder is concerned, you connected a stereo microphone with one channel really, really quiet. We had one camcorder at w...

Re: Can't choose "mono" option
If you have a MacBook Pro or other portable Mac, the built-in microphone can be made to appear as two channels, it doesn't force you to record it mono. It's still not stereo. There still only one microphone behind the grill, but it doubles up automatically to put something in both channels.

Re: 2.0.4 records static?
You can watch the bouncing sound meters during record and they move to the expected rhythm? How do they move when you play back? What do the blue waves look like? Field of Wheat, or lumps and bumps.

Re: Recommeded settings to burn commercial CDs?
There is one note that Audio CDs do not carry names or song titles. When you shove a CD into the computer, it goes on-line to GraceNote to look for the song titles. If you do that in your car, you usually get Song1, Song2, Song3 -- unless your car can go on-line. This process is usually so smooth th...

Re: Recommeded settings to burn commercial CDs?
iTunes Import settings > WAV, Automatic. The music quality on an Audio CD is 44100, 16-bit, Stereo and the import should be, too. The file structure inside an Audio CD is a little wacky to make it most efficient, that's why you can't just simple copy files from a CD, but the quality is exactly those...
