Re: volume surge about twice per second
The amplifier that I use is putting out a smooth track to the headphones jack that I am using. So you are using the Mic-In on the side of the Windows laptop? The headphone jack pushes sound out to your headphones, it doesn't accept sound from an amplifier. If that's really what you're doing, then y...

Re: Adding noise overlay to a recording
That's a good one. We can probably think of about a hundred different ways to obscure the track, but none that let you unobscure it later. Koz

Re: Track Alignment Problems
Select the track to be moved by clicking just above the MUTE button. Select the Time Shift Tool (two sideways black arrows). Click and push the track to the right. Koz

Re: Latency Problems
You know 2/100 of a second is not a terrible wander. Computers are not Digital Audio Workstations. I bet you can't hear that. I also bet no rock band in history has ever started up with that kind of accuracy.

Re: Latency Problems
The cause may be simpler than you think. The computer may change speeds if it's beginning to run out of resources. Are you filling up your hard drive? That's the first place to look. Defrag your brains out (assuming older than WinVista) and make sure you have at least 10% to 15% of the drive free. C...

Re: Mono input to Stereo output
Select the mono track by clicking just above the MUTE button. Edit > Duplicate. Drop-Down Arrow to the left of the top track > Make Stereo Track. I like doing it that way, too. You can also probably change the voice track to "real" MONO with the left drop-down and that should work, too. It...

Re: Level volume between two different voices
Usually you have to shoot it that way, or shoot it on two different tracks so you can have access to one without affecting the other. The two conventional ways are automatically with Effect > Compressor or Chris's Compressor (download) or, alternately, manually by selecting one word at a time and Ef...

Re: Converting Voice Data Recorder VOC Files to MP3 Files
We quickly found out that VOC files stink. Probably in the right place, but why do you think they stink? That gets our attention because the quality of the sound is never going to get any better than the capture. You can't open a ratty voice file in Audacity and magically have it sound like Glenn G...
