Re: Low Volume when recording with AT2020 USB
Another point. Because USB microphones jam everything into one package with no knobs, it pays well for them to make the settings as conservative as possible. This usually means they record low since slightly quiet can usually be fixed, but overload and clipping is fatal. Everybody makes different as...

Re: Novice seeking info on file compression
The fuzzy rules of thumb for MP3 compression are 32 absolute minimum for mono and 64 for Stereo. Below that most people still breathing can tell there's something wrong. Above that, many people can't tell. If you have access to a Mac or iTunes for Windows, you can sometimes get a better compression ...

Re: Low Volume when recording with AT2020 USB
Welcome to live recording. The tiny spikes (usually) are the clarity you get with the new microphone. Those represent the tiny sparkles and crystal sharp sounds missing from the other microphone. They take up room. You can "dull down" your performance by filtering them lower... Without say...

Re: Some On Demand Loading questions
If you're on XP, you should take steps to make sure your drives and roomy, error checked, and defragmented. Nothing slows a machine down like having to sweep up music like shattered debris from thousands of different places on the drive. If you're on more modern machines, make sure you're not fillin...

Re: Some On Demand Loading questions
Again, the Project is the waveform files and any difference between the show and the files. If there is no difference, the show will load in no time. Audacity has to load all your music into memory to do anything with it in non-reference, so you are looking at the time it takes your spinning drives ...

Re: Some On Demand Loading questions
- When I save the project, the data folder is much smaller than if I hadn't used On Demand Loading, but there are still a lot of files in the data folder. What are they? The waveform generation files and any difference between the original work and the new work. I'm sure you discovered Audacity doe...

I don't think the conversion is going to do what you think. We can't create Front-Left, Rear-Right, etc.

Re: Recording from a computer game
You have to make Audacity record computer sound. With Windows XP, this should be relatively easy.

Re: Low Volume when recording with AT2020 USB
How were you using the CAD microphone? You may have gone the wrong way. USB microphones are a poor, restricted shortcut for people that don't have a mixer and/or can't support a classic microphone. The 48volt phantom power and mixer is far and away the better sound chain. Koz
