Re: Set up

There is another light up near the microphone. It's a signal and overload light. If you tap smartly on the microphone, do you ever get that light? If not, that's probably the death of the microphone or something else serous up that way. Does the microphone have a power switch or other controls? Does...

Re: Set up

So you have two lights on the X2U (green and blue) and your headphones are plugged into the X2U? Then the microphone "chain" is broken. The earphones catch the sound before the digitizers. The microphone itself could be broken -- again you didn't tell us which one you have. The XLR cable b...

Re: You Tube

Some computers do this better than others. Audacity can only record what the computer gives it.

Re: Won't record to USB

Yes. There is absolutely provision to listen while you record.

Audacity > Preferences > Recording > [X] Software Playthrough (select) > [OK]
Don't select anything else.

People trying to record a live voice or microphone might not want that running, but for you it's perfect.

Re: Voicemail Audio is loud and distorted.

Did you by any chance connect the headphone of your cellphone to the Mic-In of your laptop? Mic-In is not a general audio input. It is intended only for one of these: http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/computerAnalogMicrophone.jpg Some computers can change one connection to accommodate many differen...

Re: Won't record to USB

By "dying early" I meant it was intended to die after you completed the last cassette. It was never intended to be a gift to your grandchildren. If it's possible, you should try a new USB cable before you start returning machines. If the cable came from them, then you can call and see how ...

Re: Cutting noise from a laptop when recording from USB mic

Do a short critical test before you crank through a multi-hour performance. The difference between the two settings can be serious. Without the enhancements can sound much more open and natural, but it can let background sounds through. We're not the performer. It's up to you to tell which one you l...

Re: Large sections of my project dissapears after saving

It looks to me like the filenames (with drive and folders) might be too long.
That might be. But you like us are stuck making a case why that would only lose some data but not all.

Drive failure, however, could certainly do that.

We can't wait for the results of the drive check.

Re: Flac File Distortion played with Audacity

FLAC and MP3 are both compressed formats and their job is to change things in desirable ways. What happens if you leave the original CD sound as WAV -- the format of the sound on the CD (assuming an Audio CD)? Do any of these effects happen?

I don't think Lame is the problem. We're much, much more interested in you doing a drive check. ... please error check the C drive as a priority. To error check C, right-click over C in Explorer. Choose "Properties" then click the "Tools" tab. Click the "Check Now..." b...
