Re: Cannot record audio from a DVD
Transport Stream with embedded audio. Yes. That's how Movie DVDs work. It's possible if the DVD is highly copy protected, you may not be able to open the streams and the first file may not be the first chapter in the show. None of this is going to work without the FFMpeg software package installed. ...

Re: External SSD drive via USB2?
As a fuzzy rule you can't use USB for critical time recording. USB uses traffic-copping on the data lines and sooner or later you're going to miss a step and lose data or a data event. This is an old video problem. They can't do it, either. Network drives are even worse. Maybe they got better at it,...

Re: Splitting tracks at regular time intervals
You can do it semi-automatically. You can cause Audacity to place regularly spaced labels into a show. File > Export Multiple will cause Audacity to split the show into individual exported song files at the label points.
Now I need to remember how to set those labels.

Re: Converting cassette tapes
This comes up regularly when someone realizes how much work it's going to be to transfer all those records or tapes. Audacity doesn't do anything in real time except record, play and timer and in general, you only get one of each. Audacity does have a Batch system called Chains. But I don't think yo...

Re: White Noise (static detecton)
In the beginning where he shows you the blue waves for static? That's not static. That's the rumble and clicking from him handling the microphone. Normal microphone hiss and static doesn't appear on the blue waves. Good try, though. Given as far ahead as you are, I would fake it. Do a Hollywood Test...

Re: Pass Through Sound
Preferences > Recording > [X] Playthrough. Its job is to connect the recording to the playback so you can hear what you're doing. I've never heard of a recording dropping dead if you do that. Are you sure you're recording your actual sound device and not "Everything Playing On The Computer?&quo...
Re: Set up
There's another Desperation Method trick. Turn the Phantom Power off. The blue light fades out. Turn the microphone volume all the way up and watch the signal light while you unplug and plug in the mic cable to the X2U. Do you get the light? Disconnecting any microphone cable should disturb the syst...
