Re: Shure sm58 help
The tiny Behringer mixer does have one feature I don't like. It has always-on Phantom Power. All of my other mixers and the X2U have the ability to turn it on and off. Much more expensive microphones may require power from the mixer to work. One way to deliver it is via Phantom Power which sends bat...

Re: Shure sm58 help
This Behringer unit is smaller (and cheaper). http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/502/ My impression of Behringer is they make terrific products, but that mixer does not have USB, so you would need a digitizer such as a Behringer UCA202. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/peaveyUCA202Lenovo.j...

Re: Shure sm58 help
You're treading in messy waters (to cross a metaphor). My Shure X2U is under investigation for [drum roll] low volume. It may be broken, but under the assumption that it's not, this is not going to solve your problem. We know that interface units such as the Focusrite Scarlett, while they may be del...

Re: Mastering for commercial releases (EQ and all that)
http://www.apple.com/itunes/mastered-for-itunes/ I would not have thought Apple would allow the clients to make their own AAC files, but I guess it makes perfect sense. If you created your own AAC posting, you can't complain about it. Or you can, but everybody will laugh at you. A friend of mine ju...

Re: identifying individual sound prints within a track
To sharpen this up a little. You downloaded an animation with music and voices or music and theatrical effects and you want the music only. The reason they could isolate the jet engine noise in the movie (and a lot of that scene is pure Hollywood) is the noise is a single character Jet Whine and it ...

Re: Mastering for commercial releases (EQ and all that)
Taking a page from Broadcast Radio.iTunes Radio is countering the loudness wars by volume-adjusting everything before streaming.

Re: Mastering for commercial releases (EQ and all that)
Here they are: Effect > Hard Limiter Effect > Leveler For each of those Effects, you need to apply the effect and critically listen to what happened. It's not "Push This Button for a Master." When you start punching up your volume you may find that your formerly quiet, well-behaved recordi...

Re: Mastering for commercial releases (EQ and all that)
I know you're expecting a list of filters and effects, but without question the first thing you need is a good sound system so you can hear what you're doing. Or good headphones. Without one of those (or both) you really are just doing busy-work. "It sounds OK on my computer speakers" does...

Since that's very difficult -- almost impossible, this is where we get to find out what your job is. What are you doing?
