Re: Can you help me with this ringing noise

It's too quick. I can't get enough out of it to tell what's going on. From the shape of the waves, I'd say something was oscillating. Something's input and output are connected together like what happens in a band when somebody gets the mic too close to the speaker. Computer systems are typically to...

Re: overdub peak

No, the actual process needn't be complex, but I remember the discussion branched off into whether it was desirable to permanently change the original tracks or not. If you do, exporting would be simple, but you could be presented with really teensy "rendered" tracks and trying to edit the...

Re: Help with taking lyrics out of a song

There may not be one. Finding a karaoke version is usually more successful than trying to patch up a mixed version of the song. Vocal Removal and Noise Removal are the two tools that sound like a good idea until you try to use them.

Re: Why can't I record while listening to the background mus

OK. Extrapolating. You're trying to overdub and your microphone vanished? Audacity will "lose" a USB microphone is it becomes disconnected, even briefly. Restart Audacity with the microphone connected, or Transport > Rescan...

Re: Mic still records at 0

We should probably figure out what you're looking at to get those numbers. The sound meters are in dB and "Zero" is the highest you can go. The blue waves are in percent and 0 is the lowest. Which zero are you talking about? We could use the rest of the info, too. What kind of microphone -...

Re: Measure between -23dB and -18dB RMS.

Oh, the electrical thing. You know when you see a fluorescent light flickering and carrying on because there may be something wrong with it or it's too cold. That's the peaks in the power waveform. Now stand in front of a space heater to warm your hands. That's RMS. Slow heat energy. Nobody will be ...

Re: Measure between -23dB and -18dB RMS.

You should try the Compressor thing. If you have an even announcing voice, you could settle down with a appropriate suite of settings like an comfortable old shoe.

Re: Measure between -23dB and -18dB RMS.

It doesn't listen to the performance and decide what to do with the show. It's an input/output thing. If you put in this volume, you will probably get that out. If you're too far off, you can still slide out of range. I just know you wanted to get into the fuss and bother of this audiobook thing. On...

Re: Shure sm58 help

Here it is. Yes, it's still available. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/USBDualPrePS Two "problems" with this one. It has the left/right thing. Anything you plug into the LEFT microphone connection appears as a left voice in a stereo show. It's easily fixed, but you have to fix it ev...

Re: Shure sm58 help

Here's what a one microphone mixer looks like (illustration). Click the picture. The controls that are blacked out are turned off, turned to neutral or switched off. You may need an adapter if your headphones have a 1/8" plug instead of the 1/4" plug called for here. http://www.radioshack....
