Skype is famous/notorious for maintaining an iron grip on sound services while it's running. When you're finished using Skype, close it all the way, don't leave it running in the background. I know that means it won't "ring" for an incoming call, but there's a better than even chance that ...

You used the Zoom USB connection? Did you go through a USB hub with other equipment? That can cause crackling noises in audio. USB Audio machines must have direct home runs to the computer. If you have many USB devices on the computer, see what happens when you disconnect some of them.

I DO have many top quality speakers as well as guitar amps, big mixing console (for stage), and a ton of other things similar Do you have a small mixer?
