Re: Complicated noise reduction

Noise Removal works best on sounds lower than the show, and they have to be different from the show and non-moving. That is, we can do a pretty good job on background air conditioning hum (which never changes) but we can't take out the TV in the next room that you left on by accident. We can't split...

Re: Distortion in Recording

it talks about Uni-directional or omni-directional mode for recording. That could also mean higher quality by recording both sides of the cassette for one show instead of allowing lower quality and flipping the tape over. Of course, the recording time is half when you only record one direction. My ...

Re: Newbie needs help

You probably should not do that in Audacity. You can do it in Audacity, but it will increase the compression sound damage if you do, and you also have to add the LAME software package. You should use one of the MP3-only editors that are a lot better behaved. - MP3 Editor -- Windows (mp3splt) http://...

Re: ITunes import problem

Audacity does not Save sound files. It only saves Projects. To get a sound file File > Export. If you need perfect quality, Export as WAV (Microsoft). If lesser quality is OK or you need to get a lot of songs in, you can use MP3. MP3 exports need additional Lame software in Audacity.

Re: Distortion in Recording

If you're in the middle of Somalia and can't get to a Radio shack, do the transfers with the Line-In connection and then split the stereo with the drop-down from the little black arrow on the left and then [X] delete the silent track. Then back to that drop-down and Mono. File > Export Since it's an...

Re: Distortion in Recording

I have no idea why your recording is freezing, but you can try Pausing the Recording (P) and then pick it up again when you flip the tape over.

Re: Distortion in Recording

Yes. I know. The headphone output of my Pearlcorder is high-level mono, so it takes a mono plug to stereo socket adapter, and then on to the Stereo Line-In of the PC with one of these. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/stereoJumper.jpg Other combinations don't work. My particular Pearlcorder ha...

Re: Can't playback, edit or record anything!!!!

WEAA-FM Morgan State U, Baltimore. Everybody always says "Washington Area" when they mean Baltimore. As above, this all depends on what you're trying to record from. Whatever it is can be found in Audacity Preferences. Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Devices > Recording. It's also in this ...

Re: Improve Lecture Audio?

I convert it to wav You don't have to convert it to anything. Audacity automatically converts to a high quality internal format when you Import. All you have to do is Import, select a couple of seconds and File > Export Selection > WAV (Microsoft). Never do production in MP3. The show can turn to t...

Re: Need Help Recording

That could be a damaged bitstream from the Focusrite. Do have another USB cable? Unplug and replug the one you have -- both ends -- and restart Audacity. Do you get the Focusrite lights? There's no shortage of driver trouble with the Focusrite. Uninstall the driver and install a fresh download. Rest...
