I'm assuming you're using headphones and not trying to use speakers and microphones in the same room.
Did you turn off Windows Enhanced Services?

Re: How to separate back ground music (song) and dialogue
Here's a much more complete discussion. As above, if the work is in mono or is a bad MP3 download, it's pretty hopeless.

Sometimes if it's in stereo, you can get Effect > Vocal Remover to work.

Re: Decibel slider to also show %
What kind of amplifier do you have that doesn't go to 11? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Up_to_eleven Made before 1984? Any trouble getting tubes for it? A guy at work complained how wussy his amp was sounding and it turned out he had never changed the tubes. We got a new, matched set for him. I took ...

While you may think you don't want to do any editing, I bet you actually do. If you straight transfer all your albums, they're going to play like a cassette tape (although much better quality) where you have to plow through cuts 1 to 15 to listen to cut 16. Every. Time. There is a relatively simple ...

Re: How to play an album using 2.0.5
One of the odd mysteries of computer recording is that recording and listening are completely different things. When you play an album and press Record in Audacity, do you get lumpy blue waves and do the red recording meters bounce (yours may not look exactly like this). http://kozco.com/tech/audaci...

Re: What's the best % setting for Clip Fix?
You can get good results if the original show was carefully produced to be mostly level and well behaved. In that case, clipping could be only 1% or less of each wave (but look like a jungle of red clip indicators) and Clip Fix will be seen to work wonders. Don't try that with a live microphone reco...
