Re: Get same output levels on a large batch of mp3's
As above, trying to manage MP3 is messy. Audacity always makes new ones and in the process creates distortion. Other tools may not batch properly. Since you're on an SD card, there is effectively no top end of storage, so you can use the much higher quality WAV format. The sound won't get any better...

Re: Get same output levels on a large batch of mp3's
Notes: I would use the sound standard of 44100, 16-bit, Stereo, WAV. That's what's on a Music CD. 48000 is the video standard and certainly in this case overkill for no benefit. You can change that default in Audacity. Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Quality. You may benefit from Chris's Compressor....

Re: make this music loop seamlessly
Exactly correct. Open the song in Audacity. See the time windows at the bottom of the frame? Use the pulldowns to change the measurement to samples. Use the published numbers from Steve, above. If you have View > Show Clipping turned on, the blue waves will turn into a sea of red overload bars. You ...

Re: take away noise
If you're willing to spend the time, the Envelope Tool can sound like somebody in a professional sound truck during a live recording pulling down the fader every time somebody laughs so it's not as objectionable. If they do that ahead of the recorder like in an actual outside broadcast shoot, then y...

Re: converted movie to audio file...need to remove backgroun
Noise Removal works in two steps unlike many other filters. In the first step you drag-select a section of the show that has noise but no performance , run the tool and make that the profile. Audacity will try to remove all the audio tones in that selection from the show, so if you include voices or...

Re: no Signal Vinyl recording
Audacity will fail if Stereo/Mono doesn't line up. That's set in Audacity > Preferences > Devices. So the Scarlett software has a bouncing ball sound meter or something like that and it is working? Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input. Select the Scarlett and make sure ...

Can you hear the messages on a pair of headphones or earbuds? Connect the phone to your computer and record the messages live in Audacity. If you can hear them, plug a jumper cable such as this... http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/stereoJumper.jpg ...into the phone and the blue Stereo Line-In o...

Re: I can't hear anything in the recording?
Don't worry about it. No, it's not obvious. The last three Windows versions come new, out of the box all set up for corporate conferencing and Skype. They're not general computers any more. That means automatic echo cancellation and room noise processing is on and running by default. They're set to ...

Re: Recording equipment for voice
You can't stop a Skype recording to apply Noise Removal. Communications happens live and in real time and Audacity doesn't. Whatever room, microphone and sound card noise you have is what's going out.

Re: Recording equipment for voice
Skype and other communications require headphones or earbuds for good, clear audio at the other side of the call. Again, the microphone is not the most important thing. You can force Skype to do echo cancellation, but that sound is always bubbly and honky like a bad cellphone call. If you have a gam...
