Re: Vinyl playthrough works sometimes; other times just beep
One note. Once you start Audacity it stops looking for new connections. Connect everything, let it settle and bit and then start -- or restart -- Audacity. Make sure you're trying to record from the turntable with that Device Toolbar.

Re: Vinyl playthrough works sometimes; other times just beep
Open Audacity but leave the turntable out of it. Generate > Tone... > 440Hz, 10 seconds, 0.8 volume. Play that. Does it play like the oboe "A" in the orchestra, or is it trashed? Use the toolbar with the device selector (Microphone symbol with the pulldown) and select your built-in microph...

Re: Help! Blue Yeti high pitch noise
You know it's not an end-fire microphone, right? You talk across the top of it with the Blue logo facing you.

Re: Constant high pitched noise
Smaller cameras have automatic gain control. They sense the environment and performance and try to automatically set their own volume controls as needed. Most of the time it sounds OK, but you can get recordings that "breathe" and pump as the gain goes up and down. Many of them are biased ...

Re: Breaking Down and Editing Tracks from a .m4a file
I'm trying to read that again. Did you say you saved the m4a file as multiple channel? It should open up just as you saved it.

Re: Breaking Down and Editing Tracks from a .m4a file
I'm guessing the answer is no, And you'd be right. We can't take apart a mixed song into its original instruments and voices. We can open up the m4a file by adding the FFMpeg software, but all that will give you is mixed music. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_installation_and_plug_ins.html...

Re: Blue Yeti (Recording)
Are you recording your Yeti? During a test recording, scratch with your fingernail around the Yeti grill. Then scratch around the keyboard and screen surround of your laptop. I bet the laptop wins. Switch your computer and Audacity to record from the Yeti. You can use the Audacity menu bar for that....

Re: New to recording, advice on Behringer 302USB AI
I wrote pieces of the overdubbing tutorial. Overdubbing/Sound-On-Sound can be pretty complicated (and rewarding when you get it right), but we found it valuable to insist that the player be able to make a good straight sound recording before they get fancy.

Re: Constant high pitched noise
That's not what I thought it was going to be. I think you are recording the computer cooling fan. Make a recording with nothing else going on in the room in order to get pure noise mixed with nothing else. Then follow the Noise Removal instructions. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/noise_removal...
