Effect > Change Pitch and the others are speed-happy. They were designed to produce OK results rapidly. Not so Effect > Sliding Time Scale... You can sometimes produce much better results slowly with that tool.

Re: Fixing microphone distortion (AC offset)
The lead (left edge) dense part in the right-hand bracketed segment does appear to be damaged. I don't think that's normal sound. Is that someone turning on a microphone with the sound system running? Some other damage?

Re: Fixing microphone distortion (AC offset)
Human voices are asymmetric — sometimes startlingly so. There is a radio show with a man and a woman tossing it back and forth. I can tell who's talking just by inspecting the blue waves. She's more or less even with maybe a slight positive boost, whereas he has a pronounced negative peak bias. All ...

Re: WAV->FLAC->WAV ... identical?
Did you turn dither off? Scientists are rarely impressed with Audacity because it's not a WAV editor. It's a show or production editor. It's goal is to sound good, not produce mathetically significant results. Audacity > Edit > Quality. Turn dithering off and as long as you have Audacity set to the ...

Re: i want to play through with a delay
One problem you're going to have that crops up for everyone — particularly those trying to overdub — is computer delay. Getting in and out of the computer takes time and always results in a echo in your headphones when listening to yourself. There are some soundcards that "short-circuit" t...

Re: Recording Cassettes
Do you already have sound files and are they MP3? I don't know that I agree the sound is muffled because of age. I think the recording machine may have been a little too gentle on the correction, particularly if, as you say, you tried a bunch of players and they all did the same thing. Cassettes are...

Re: OLD voice recordings
You have two strikes. Old recordings, and MP3. MP3 is not a generic sound format. It's a personal music player and internet posting format. It causes sound damage to whatever it touches. I should say it causes additional damage. If you got it down to a boomy voice, you may be able to help with Analy...

Re: Help with Guitar Recording
Most good gaming headsets have to be aimed. They only pick up sound from one direction and usually close to the boom, so no, they're not going to work very well for music recording.
