It's super easy to get the Soundflower setup wrong. It's completely counterintuitive. "Thinking it Through" is a waste of time. Step through the wiki entry.

Actually, there was one other Mac item. Do you keep your Dock on the bottom? How many programs do you have running down there? How many programs have that little bright star under them? I can "insert" a clip into an existing track and the rest of the show moves forward out of the way. Insert a five second clip into a 50 second show and you're left with a 55 second show.
