I'm beginning to scare the problem. Audacity 2.0.3 now only crackles on the first play after opening the show. All the rest of them are clean. I uninstalled 2.0.5.

Re: First 5 seconds of Export buzzing
Audacity 2.0.2 crackles just like everybody else, but 2.0.0 does not. I started 2.0.0 multiple times and played/stopped forever and that version does not make noise. Koz

Re: First 5 seconds of Export buzzing
I exported a WAV from both 2.0.5 and 2.0.3. The 2.0.5 wav appears to be perfectly clean (for the first ten seconds). The 2.0.3 export, however, is a Little Bit Dirty. Starts off clean and then exhibits a little crackle here and there. I suspect if I did it enough times I'd get the same variability I...

Re: How to turn mono into stereo other than just duplicating
Quick note. What do you want it to sound like? "I'm sitting in a room facing the performer across from me?" "I'm sitting in a theater front-row center?" Each case sounds little different. You might try duplicating the guitar track (I'm with the overdubbing people here), reducing ...

Re: USB mic hiss/white noise
Double-shielded USB cable of ferrite beads wrapped around the cable can sometimes help with RF noise. Terrific idea. Part numbers and sources? Noise will manifest inside the microphone, that's the place your voice gets converted into electrical and then on to digital, that's the place the system is...

Re: USB mic hiss/white noise
I've said multiple times you don't need thousands of dollars of microphone and sound equipment to get a reasonable recording, but you do have to start with a quiet room, pay attention, and sometimes get lucky. Koz

Re: USB mic hiss/white noise
The noise is NOT that bad! See? I'm not crazy — that you know of. Make a mono recording with your normal voice. "Testing, One Two, etc." Then shut up and stop moving. Leave it just sit there with "Room Tone" for a couple of seconds. Stop it, Export as a 128 Quality MP3 and post ...

Re: Manipulating Decibels
I just submitted the files for review. We'll see what they say ... We are so on the edges of our seats — across nine time zones. While we're waiting, I wouldn't complain if you posted some of the Before performance. I want to get a feel for the starting point. Chris won't fix you if you're just too...

Re: Manipulating Decibels
Chris is a "look ahead" compressor. Beginnings and endings can confuse it, as when the show suddenly drops off a cliff at the end. Remember, this is a home-grown Audacity plugin, not a commercial product.

Re: USB mic hiss/white noise
You can't patch white noise in post production. You have to get the microphone right. Noise removal works by sampling the noise by itself and then trying to generate filters and notches to get rid of it in the show. White noise contains all audible tones, so Noise Removal tries to remove the whole s...
