Re: Manipulating Decibels

Actually, that's another point. Where is the dividing line between a cold reading and a fully theatrical production? I didn't know about the samples. I should go up and look. If I was feeling truly evil, I would submit one of their own samples to acceptance testing — and not warn them. That was a pl...

Re: Soft Clipper with Adjustable Threshold

Isn't that what Effect > Leveller did? I know it's a standing joke that Leveller is used to create "air traffic controller" distorted voices, but in its more gentle form, it just rounded off the transfer curve so aggressive sound didn't increase as fast as it wanted. Koz

Re: USB mic hiss/white noise

That makes sense. You're trying to prevent radio energy from dancing down the cable's shield. If you have a jump rope connected to the barn door and you swing it fast enough, it will eventually break into two swings instead of one (Illustration). Radio waves can do that, too and if you put a bead or...

Re: Reset the cursor to time 0

Don't you get a new track starting from zero if you Record > Stop > Record? That's what happens in real life.

Re: Manipulating Decibels

OK. That's a new one. Swiss Francs? Swiss Frank would be a 20cm sausage on croissant with melted gruyère on top? DAT. Run away. DAT machines have a certain reputation. They can automatically detect when a recording is important to know when to fail. I am curious what the ACX people reply and how muc...

Re: Using Audacity from a prerecorded-file.

Nowhere is it written that you can't have several recorders on an interview. The talent is going onto a Tascam multi-channel recorder with a nice shotgun microphone, but your questions are being recorded with your cellphone earpiece microphone. You'll need to juggle to make the various voice quality...

Re: Using Audacity from a prerecorded-file.

the interviewee's audio always sounds worse then that of the interviewer. No, the actor or talent usually sounds just fine, it's the guy holding the microphone that usually gets stuck. One of three things happens: The recordist doesn't move the microphone at all and the talent sounds just fine but ...

Re: Unable to increase microphone volume with USB Microphone

You can get "magic" problems with microphones if Windows Enhanced Services is working. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html#enhancements I don't know anybody who ever made a top of the heap, high quality karaoke microphone, so in the line of different mic...

Re: First 5 seconds of Export buzzing

That may be the end of the crackling. I haven't been able to produce the crackling again through multiple days of testing. I can produce that About Audacity distortion any time at all.

Re: Using Audacity from a prerecorded-file.

I am starting my own podcast network. So more than one podcast? Do you have multiple people contributing to your network and more than one connection for listening? "Shotgun" Mic for sounds around me I suppose that's the first problem. You use the shotgun microphone for the interview beca...
