Re: Recommendations for a studio mic for vocals?
You can also go with a GLS Audio ES-58 which is an asian knock-off for less money. The characteristics are so close it doesn't matter. http://www.speakerrepair.com/page/product/microphones/37-205.html That's the "Rock Band" vocal microphone. It's a straight analog microphone. How were you ...

Re: Car Horn Masking
White Noise is an off-tuned FM radio without muting. Pink Noise is rain in the trees and Brown Noise is rain in the trees through a closed window. Environment noises are a very serious problem. There have been postings about how to record it so to turn the perpetrator in to the authorities. I don't ...

Re: Importing Audio into 2nd Track
Do you hear the bleep very quietly if you play it anyway? SOLO the track so there's no competition from the other tracks. The sound meters are in dB and accurately reflect the way you hear, but the blue waves are in percent. The waves will only show if the sound is louder than about -35dB or so. It'...

Re: Using Audacity from a prerecorded-file.
I think we're getting dangerously close to the three heavy books: "How to ride a bicycle." Go out and do interviews with the personal recorder on your cellphone. Come back and edit them in Audacity and see what went wrong — if anything. I know people who do that. "Look, there's Jan Su...

You can do quotes manually. Copy the words you want from wherever they are and Paste them into a blank message block. Type left-bracket, q, u, o, t, e, right-bracket before the words and left-bracket, slash mark, q, u, o, t, e, right-bracket after. It should look like the attachment.

Re: Using Audacity from a prerecorded-file.
if I do an interview at a restaurant, with say the chief, I want the sounds of the kitchen and the food being prepped. I'm clear about that, but did you notice in all the interviews, discussions and shows, the background sound never overwhelms or competes with the voices? The establishing sound is ...

Re: Manipulating Decibels
@Xena I was wondering how you were going to repeatedly pick up a slice of drywall without it falling apart. Did you install any software/drivers when you got your microphone? Can you go into Windows Control Panels and see if Windows Enhanced Services is turned on? Don't change anything, just look. I...

Re: Audactiy recording - file playback is slow...
You understand what we're doing here? The USB device is making up the digital bitstream and the computer is interpreting it through Audacity. If there's something wrong with the USB device, it could be making a bogus or damaged bitstream. The built-in microphone has no such restrictions, so it shoul...

Re: Manipulating Decibels
That takes us back to the ACX goals. Conversational variation is normal. Fading down to the noise level is not.The problem that I'm having with the levels is that there is rather a lot of variation.
I wonder if it's possible to turn over any more rocks....
