Re: Audacity as DAW software?

If it's plain USB audio, you should be able to record it in Audacity. May be not part of a complicated production because, as above, all Audacity can do is record and play. No control. Plug it into your computer and open the Windows Control Panels. You should be able to select the USB Sound Device a...

Re: Audacity as DAW software?

Most MIDI compliant instruments send MIDI over USB. Only the older ones have the 5-pin DIN/Tuchel connector. They make adapters to go back and forth if your piano has one and the computer has the other. You should dig in your instructions. Keyboards with the 5-pin DIN typically do not have USB audio...

Re: Problem opening decompressed files from friend

It's totally worth doing, though. This is a sample of Josh sending a guide track to the other performers and the performers sent final high-quality music back to Josh so he could mix down into a final show. He mixed the YouTube video to make the show look like a multi-point Skype Sync session, but i...

Re: Problem opening decompressed files from friend

The _DATA folder is a large black plastic bag with the bits and pieces of the entire, whole, actual show. The AUP file is a text list of Audacity instructions about how to play the bag. Here is an actual AUP file. You can open yours up and look at it in any text editor. It uses English-like words. h...

Re: Audacity as DAW software?

A performer taking some action and then have a musical instrument produce music or sound is generally handled by MIDI. So whereas a "real" DAW should be able to manage that with no trouble, Audacity is going to look up at you and wonder what to do. We can certainly record the result of oth...

Re: flat line on recording side.

Tell us the Windows version, the Audacity version, and what you're trying to do. Record YouTube sound? Record your voice from a plugged in microphone? http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/Documents/PostingQuestions2.pdf The versions and computer are out of date, but you get the idea. You're number thr...

Re: Problem opening decompressed files from friend

You didn't send the show. You sent the AUP file which is a text file list of instructions how to construct the show from the contents of the _DATA folder which you apparently didn't send. Send that, too.

This is the long version:

Re: Audacity as DAW software?

Which Audacity and which Windows? Audacity doesn't speak MIDI in any useful way, so if that's your question, then no. I didn't get a goal. You want to play your piano and mix it with that other device? You want to overdub your piano multiple times? We need the goal. Again, the software will not play...

Re: Sync Drift from different Zoom Recorders

A note. You don't have to find a sync point at the very end of the shoot. It's best if you do that, but anywhere in the end quarter of the shoot should be close enough, particularly if it's human lips. Koz
