Re: Fledgling voice artist seeking counsel.

Acoustical Goosh (technical term) is not the only way to do it. Our old company building had a special "round room" whose original purpose was to make nice with the people who played instruments and wanted to practice and record band sessions. I made a number of successful sound recordings...

Re: Set up and configuration of Audacity in preference

2.0.5 has a very good on-line manual. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/ What do your connections actually look like and are you using any USB equipment or connections? This is my Stereo Line-In and Stereo Line-Out. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MacLineIn.jpg I had a PowerBook G4. Terrific m...

Leave all the winter clothing in there. That's two walls you don't have to process.

Re: Fledgling voice artist seeking counsel.

I thought you were able to see my previous pictures?
I did. That's why I think there's something wrong.

Re: Input Rec levels very low

Near as I can tell, neither the Mac nor Soundflower can do gain. The loudest you can do is the signal level of the incoming show. Chrome/YouTube has its own volume control under the active window and that helps a little.

Re: How to reduce blaring dialogue pieces

I thought compression was supposed to decrease peaks I bet it did. The old compressor would reduce the peaks, the show would vanish and everybody would complain about it. So I think this one bends the peaks and manages the overall volume as well. I'm not the angel of compression. Did you read throu...

Re: How to reduce blaring dialogue pieces

It's probably fine. Compressor has gone through many changes since the last time I needed it. It used to be a very manual tool and you had to be a violinist to use it. I'm surprised it made you reset the output levels after it did its job. It's possible your standard level and it's target output lev...

Can you see that if you're not Facebook Enhanced? It says the content is off-line.

Re: How to reduce blaring dialogue pieces

Two problems. It's a weak recording so everything you do is going to cause room tone breathing as you noticed.

Effect > Compression is probably a good start, but you may need to get the show within range first with Effect > Amplify: New Peak -1dB.
