It does sound like a starving computer. Audacity has to also manage UNDO. UNDO gets wiped clean every time you restart. If you apply multiple effects to a large show, you could easily run out of memory or hard drive space — or both.

That was actually a defect. I think this is the change that fixed a problem we complained about for a long time. You should be really careful and recheck your settings when you get ready to leave the house. All the settings, not just the ones you adjusted. I got in trouble once by rolling the date by accident and didn't catch it.
