Re: Recovery Error

my MacBook died
Do we know why? Macs don't go toes-up for no reason.

Is this the first time it died, or the first time recovery failed?

Re: How to achieve gradual increase/fade in of distortion effect?

The simplest way is to duplicate the track Control-D, so you have two identical copies, one over the other. Select, SOLO and screw up the bottom track. Use the Envelope tool (two arrows and bent blue line) to slowly fade between them. Screen Shot 2020-09-29 at 5.21.35 PM.png Audacity will push them ...

Re: How do I adjust my RMS??

That audiobook mastering suite of tools guarantees meeting ACX audiobook testing for Loudness (RMS) and Peak and the only thing left is Noise. Home performers never pass noise. Nobody's house is studio quiet. Nobody can read directly into Audiobook Standards, or if you do, you'll never do it twice. ...

Re: Can't Import a WAV file

There's something odd about it. 25 minutes of regular WAV is 132MB, not 166MB. Even at higher video standards it comes in at 144MB.

You can get Media Info to tell you what you really have.

I can get closer with Effect > Bass and Treble. Screen Shot 2020-09-29 at 7.58.40 AM.png test for forum-Patched.wav Nice recorder. You and me both. Little question marks floating over our heads. What could cause a new recording to be weak with low bass—or alternately, "presence" boosted. D...

Re: Quality Troubleshooting

Let's get a little more radical. My Audacity layout is a little wacky, but it's handy if anything goes wrong. I pull the meters across the whole Audacity window. The left and right extremes of the meter are drag and positioning clickies. As you drag the meters around, the other windows should move o...

Re: Quality Troubleshooting

If you recommend the Beta of the 3.0, I'll try it.
Forget 3.0 it's still being changed and adjusted. I have a special build and I think there's something wrong with it.

You have 2.4.2?

Re: Quality Troubleshooting

about a -10 drop in noise floor from the baseline with no tweaks. I don't think that's enough. Now that I know what the mixer really is, I can look at the manual and recommend settings....in the morning. There is a test you can do. Start a normal, conventional voice recording and reach over and tur...

Re: Quality Troubleshooting

I know, right? We were all set to leap into "Move that padding here" and "Put more sound proofing there."

It's a good bet the room is not what's wrong.
