Re: Fledgling voice artist seeking counsel.
This is well-trod earth. The last few passes had background noises in the -60 range (as required), and gentle, graceful noise reduction that produced little or no damage to the voice. We're hashing out the last decimal point of filters and effects needed to squeeze out the best possible quality with...

Re: 32-bit float to 24-bit: To Use Dithering or Not?
Audacity does everything internally at 32-floating because its quality is higher than anything else you're likely to find, and it doesn't overload. If you Export the show at 32-floating, then, no, you don't need dither, there, either. Photoshop does internal color at L-a-b colorspace (not RGB or CMY...

Re: Workflow suggestion for external audio in video producti
The recorder was set to record at "high" and my trim for the input channel was nearly as loud as it goes. Where is this "high" setting of which you speak? I would have picked medium volume or low volume to make the preamp give me more Zot (technical term). Also the A Volume and ...

Re: Workflow suggestion for external audio in video producti
If you use the internal battery, can you turn Phantom Power off? You can get a conflict (not likely with that microphone). These are the hard ones. If somebody forced me to design that shoot, I'd be doing what you did. You can't get rid of hiss in post. You just can't. Noise Removal works by careful...

Re: 32-bit float to 24-bit: To Use Dithering or Not?
If the in and the out are the same bit depth and you only did simple cutting in Audacity, then you don't need the dithering. Obviously, if you have a mismatch, you need it, but even if your in and out match, the instant you do anything that affects the size or quality of the blue waves, you're dead....

Re: My hard drive may have to be wiped out
Wait. Is it dead now? Or it's going to be dead? Or somebody is going to dead it for you?
Mount an external backup drive and search for and copy all your EVP files.
It would be good to know what's wrong with the computer.

Re: My hard drive may have to be wiped out
There are recovery companies that can take a hard drive and scoop off "what's left" after the damaged segments are isolated. The companies know how valuable they are.

Re: Out of Sync over time?
I think I got it. You're recording Game Commentary and the game video and the live microphone are drifting out of sync, but only recently. It's likely something is competing for machine resources. When the video people have this problem, it's usually their hard drive is filling up. Do you like to le...
