Re: Voice Track Hollow Sound
How did you connect your SM58 to the Mac? Most MBPs have no Mic-In like your Windows machine did. Do your MBP connections look like this? Which MBP? 13" 15" 17"? http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MacLineIn.jpg Audacity doesn't do anything to the sound during recording. Whatever t...

Re: Importing to Audacity
Another possibility to reduce file sizes is to transmit the VO files as mono instead of stereo if they're not already mono. Most voices in presentations come from the middle even in a surround show. They're not in stereo.

recorded using audacity to my Gmail. Audacity does not save a sound file and the AUP file is not a sound file. You need to Export a real sound file in one of the formats mentioned above. What does Ian (MichloIW) think about it? He's the one with the Wet Mouth Noises.

Re: Only getting one channel?
Mic-In on the side of a Windows laptop is mono. It's designed for a mono headset like this. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/PCHeadset.jpg You can cause Audacity to record in "real" mono which will play to both speakers in a stereo computer system. You'll get a single sound track, bu...

Re: help reducing background noise
Noise Reduction works in two steps. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/noise_removal.html You run the tool and perform the profile step where you select some portion of the show with Noise Only for the tool to "taste." Then you run the tool again and it uses that taste to know what to re...

Re: Fledgling voice artist seeking counsel.
I am not expert enough to know what I am missing in a costlier mic. Maybe not much. I've used the one from work and it's a respectable performer. I use my Expensive Microphone® because it has multiple patterns and other controls and sounds very slightly crisper. But if someone said I had to shoot s...
