Re: Sound dropping out when converting to mono

The show may not double in volume, but it should not change. I think "Stereo Tracks to Mono" compensates for the normal increase in volume effect. But still. Let us know what happens.

Re: Sound dropping out when converting to mono

You can get that if you have a wiring error or some other physical/electrical problem with one microphone. It's a big red flag when something works just fine in stereo and continues as long as you never go to mono. I'm guessing when you use both microphones normally, they're never very far apart? Wh...

Re: which file

Sorry. Missed a step. If you want to make an Audio CD later, you should use WAV. The quality of music on an Audio CD is WAV. So your capture and the CD will be the same very high quality. A note that home Audio CDs are not archival quality. They have the same archive quality as a color photo and as ...

Re: which file

Playing your music on your personal music player and storing them in archive are different. If you need to send something to the internet or play it on your iPod, that's a good place for MP3. MP3 makes small files, but it creates distortion while it does it. Usually, if you're jogging on the beach o...

Re: Just cant get going!

I also have background noise. You may have more than one problem. Lucky you. If you can hear your refrigerator or your breathing or sneezing or traffic noises in the recording, then you're probably not recording the cassette or CD. You may be recording the built-in microphone designed to do live co...

Re: Cant record without my usb mic

Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Sound > Input: Internal Microphone. Does the blue ball light meter jump when you speak? Is the volume control advanced? The computer has to "know" about a sound source before Audacity gets to work. If you're transferring music, you might also have ...

Re: Just cant get going!

You didn't tell us anything about your system, but if your show plays too fast, that usually means it was recording too slow. That usually means the machine could not keep up with the work. Restart the machine and don't open up any other applications. Open Audacity, try a transfer and see if it work...

Re: Increase volumn MP3 file

Sure. Open the file so it shows as blue waves on the timeline and Effect > Amplify > OK. If you then want to save it that way, there may be some other steps, but that will quickly get you out of trouble. I predict (holding fingers to forehead) your next post is how to boost a weak voice in the face ...

Re: Fledgling voice artist seeking counsel.

Mine, too. It does OK, but it's right next to a busy street and we're serenaded with the soft whirr of laptops using the free internet. There's one library on the west side where the building is between the eastbound and westbound lanes of Venice Blvd. I have an SPL meter. I should try it. There is ...
