Re: microphone not picking up
Close Audacity. You should not be running the mixer channel slider and the two master sliders all the way up. That mixer has three ways to affect volume. Up near where you plugged the microphone in there is a knob called "Gain." Start that one around 3:00 o'clock. The microphone slider and...

Can you point to one of these links? Can you tell if the person got Audacity from the approved server?

Re: Alternating sound from left to right
I can think of a way to do that manually, although I'm sure you wanted a single button push. Assume you have an existing stereo show. Tracks > Stereo Track to Mono. Edit > Duplicate. That will give you two matching sound tracks one above the other. The top track will eventually be Left and the botto...

Re: Why smooth freq curves?
Sounds in nature are made up of many different tones, overtones, and harmonics. This is an illustration of a single piano note. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/piano_G1.jpg It's the note "G" plus the sound of the wood, size of the other strings, position of the pegs, etc. This is why you ca...

Re: Recording On Simmons SD1000 electric drums.
You may have two problems. The computer thinks your drum playing is interference and you can't use the Mic-In for what you're doing. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html#enhancements Mic-In is used for microphones. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/computerAnalogM...

Re: Blank spots recording Skype
I'm going to predict the past. You're going to find a combination of tools and adjustments and techniques which allow Audacity to record both sides of the Skype call with minimum distortion and problems. Skype will then be unusable because of bad or missing echo cancellation. "What did you do t...

Re: Remove crackle from mp3
That's overload. The music is getting too loud for the computer. Where is the music? This problem is very common when somebody tries to plug high volume sound into the Mic-In of a laptop computer.
