Re: Mic in to line in on a Windows 7 laptop
I like using my Behringer UCA202. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/peaveyUCA202Lenovo.jpg As a side advantage, it's one of the three hardware devices we certified for music overdubbing/sound-on-sound. That's what it's doing in the illustration. Other people make similar devices, but be careful...
Re: Trovi
This association will spread unless you do something about it. I think you overestimate the size of the Audacity Corporate Family. We would sic our crack legal office on the offending web sites, but there is no office and there's no corporation, either. We're a tiny collection of volunteers that ca...

Re: microphone not picking up
wellll when i put the gain at 3 with the main mix and mic slider at 0 the distortion is ear shattering. the mixer is barely (it IS picking up on sound though. just barely) picking up the sound on the levels. Those two together mean you're listening wrong. The bouncing light sound meter on the mixer...

Re: USB audio from a USB mixer
Capturing and editing at CD quality if required for a predictable and good quality show no matter how it's presented to the client. MP3 quality in particular produces sound damage that accumulates and is responsible for many posts on the forum of people who decided to do production with download MP3...

And again, you can force that to work, but increasing the work also increases the time. If you want a particularly difficult effect on long show, you may have time to go out for coffee.

Re: Audacity Performance Problems
Some virus programs insist on inspecting everything and that can slow production to a crawl. Also some effects need to load the whole show into memory to work and if it doesn't fit, it has to swap out to hard drive. That will seriously slow things down. A common response to your problem is to edit t...

Re: Audacity Performance Problems
I would expect that to work OK. What else are you running? You can get serious troubles with an aggressive Virus Protection product. Take the machine off-line and suspend Virus Protection and monitoring. What else do you have running? Restart the machine and just use Audacity. Don't start Skype, ema...

Re: Audacity Performance Problems
How big is the SSD and how much room do you have left? My last three computers have had SSDs instead of spinning metal for their speed and robustness, but they're not as big as spinning metal and I do have to watch not to overload them. Audacity has to save UNDO and multiple copies of the show durin...

Re: Low signal noise
I've already removed the electronic hums as far as I can tell. How are you listening? That's the first step. Good quality sound system or "computer speakers?" Good headphones or earbuds? Sound management or repair is entirely audible. If you can't hear what you're doing, you may be creati...
