You should't skip steps or leave out details. Which Beats headphones and did you go down into Windows and check for those settings? Did you actually install Audacity? Double click the ZIP to get the DMG file. Open the DMG and drag the Audacity folder to the /Applications folder? If you're trying to run Audacity from inside the DMG, it can be profoundly unstable.

You didn't mention which headphones you're using. Overdubbing demands sealed headphones to keep the playback guide tracks out of the show and still be able to hear them.

Tinkly, metallic audio is almost always caused by multiple compressions. Audacity doesn't edit in native format. You can totally do that. Macs allow one device at a time switching and the play and record sides are independent. Koz
