Re: Audacity not exporting at expected rate anymore
it is now going to start exporting things at a resulting bitrate of 706 kbps. That's a mono file. One blue wave or timeline instead of two. Screen Shot 2020-10-03 at 1.13.11 AM.png The problem is this: I export everything as lossless WAV files using the export format "WAV (Microsoft) signed 16...

Re: Audacity records audio from my headset, even though 'Recording Device' is set to my laptop's microphone
There is another variation here. If you have a USB audio device, you may be able to convince the machine to use that for playback instead of Realtek. It would leave the microphone right where it is. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/peaveyUCA202Lenovo-650.jpg For this example, that UCA202 can ...

Re: Audacity records audio from my headset, even though 'Recording Device' is set to my laptop's microphone
'Microphone (Realtek High Definition), You may be suffering from Microsoft calling anything that records a "microphone." I think Realtek is actually your soundcard, literally a card with audio parts on it inside the computer, not the microphone. Normally, this card gets its audio from the...

Re: editing a loud audio recording
No. It's a cousin to "Essing" where people's SS sounds are too pronounced and annoying. DeEsser and DeSibilator didn't help.

Re: editing a loud audio recording
Ding! I analyzed the one or two words that aren't obviously distorted and those tones don't go any higher than 7000Hz. So that was probably the original performance, or close to it. This is a massive change, but it's missing a lot of that sharp fuzz. Screen Shot 2020-10-02 at 5.36.11 PM.png Switch a...

Re: editing a loud audio recording
It may have two channels, two blue waves, but it's not stereo. The two channels are identical. Yet even more evidence of monkey business.

Re: editing a loud audio recording
It sounds like a "communications" radio channel. "Roger United 2 6 descend to five thousand feet and maintain heading 1 8 0." Once the volume increases to a certain point, the sound channel starts making up its own sounds. In effect, the voice is keying trash in and out. That sou...

Re: editing a loud audio recording
Other than "hiding" most of the distortion, I think you're stuck. There is something magic about this sound clip. Step one, there are no sound tones higher pitch than 12,000Hz. AM radio stops at 5,000Hz and FM stops at 15,000Hz. Perfect audible sound doesn't stop until 20,000Hz. That means...

Re: Recording breaks down and produces weird clicks
Do you have your music system AUX-Out connected to a Behringer UCA-202? -- Your USB interface doesn't have a clean connection to the computer. Hub? Splitter? USB Sharing? -- The machine is paying attention to something going on that has a higher priority than Audacity does. Zoom? Skype? --You're try...
