Re: Unbalanced input signal
Maybe the supplier has an in-house repair service or help system similar to the Apple Genius Bars. They recently reorganized that service and it's much more professional now than the older "geeks behind a high counter." I suspect if there is a bad run of equipment the supplier would want t...

Re: Artifacts created when using RIAA Equalization
That is a very serious mismanagement of the sound signal. Your system is crying out for a proper hardware phono preamp. One thing to look for is the separate ground connection, required on proper phono preamp systems. Note the extra grounding post on this preamp. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/deta...

Re: Unbalanced input signal
I'm out. I can't think of a likely scenario that would give your symptoms or how to test for it. I can think of several very highly unlikely ones. Like a bad run of electronics chips used by several different manufacturers and both of the units really are bad — and likely to be many others as well. ...

Re: Audio cutting
Does the pitch go up too, like talking chipmunks? That sound file may be in a format that Audacity doesn't recognize. Do you have the FFmpeg software installed?

Re: Alesis 4 Channel USB skype
Alesis MultiMix 4 USB??
Skype manages its own sound channels. If you can get the Alesis to produce four recorded channels, you need to route the Skype speaker feed into one of the Alesis inputs. Jumper cable? Then you may need a "Y" cable so you can hear the person at the other end.

Re: Understanding and modifying Chris's compressor
1.2.6 is the hero version as far as I know. Chris was working on advanced versions when the project stopped. The only shortcoming I know of, and not everybody has the problem, is what to do at the beginnings and ends. Look-Ahead processing is just ducky when there is show before and after the sample...

Re: Unbalanced input signal
Thanks Apple! For taking away the audio line in jack! I bought my 15" MacBook Pro last year new but older design in order to get Stereo Line-In. My friends are all walking around with Airs and Retinas laughing at me. I don't need to go to the gym. I can bench-press my MBP. Make it Burn!! Koz

Re: Unbalanced input signal
So are we one step closer to solving the mystery? Yes, but it's a tiny step. We've cleared Audacity. That's doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing. Traditionally, Audacity doesn't do anything to the incoming show. Whatever the computer decides to provide to Audacity is what we get. The abilit...

Re: Unbalanced input signal
Set up Audacity to record from the iMac built-in microphone. See attached. Make sure it's stereo (the next setting to the right).
