Re: Multitrack recording with 4 microphones

We are all assuming you can't split the performance. Record two now and the other two next week.

That's the down side of not telling us what you're actually doing.

Re: Multitrack recording with 4 microphones

I'm not sure if Audacity can record multi-track. I'll let someone else answer that. Yes it does. But it only records from one Device. So whatever you buy has to appear to Audacity as one device or thing. Many multi-track devices appear as many stereo devices. It may say Six Sound Channels!! on the ...

Re: Multitrack recording with 4 microphones

I keep waiting for you to get to the goal. What's the goal? Can we assume four independent sound channels? The Peavey PV6-USB is a stereo mixer. The best you can do is mix everything down to Left and Right. You can put anything you want on those two channels, for example microphone one and two on Le...

Re: Single file with wrong Tempo, wrong volume, no waveform

I believe the default Audacity sound meters are too small. You can make them much larger by clicking on the right-hand edge and pulling sideways. The other tools will get out of the way. As a general rule, if you're getting meters and blue waves, then you are getting a recording. They tell you a lot...

Re: Artifacts created when using RIAA Equalization

The cartridge and preamp are a matched system even though you buy them separately. There has to be an impedance match, resistance and capacitance to work right. Very few turntables work without that ground lead properly connected. Did you ever figure out which type of cartridge you have? Koz

Re: Removing background vocals from Audacity recording?

Then I think we're out. It's a rare microphone that can pick up one person and exclude a person sitting right next door and as before, we can't split a performance into individual voices. Noise Removal failed because it can't be used on moving "noises." Whatever you used for the profile st...

Re: Virtual Session Musicans needed

Please note everyone is wearing headphones. You can't do this Skype style where everyone just talks in the general direction of their computer. A recent post tried that with recording multi-city gameplay and they are now trying to straighten out the echoes in post production.

Re: Virtual Session Musicans needed

This is my favorite multi-location shoot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PU8hXDim-1s Somewhere in the comments, Josh tells us he did it by locally recording all the voices in each city and each singer sent Josh the video or sound files and he mixed them together at home. They used the internet for c...

Re: Removing background vocals from Audacity recording?

We can't split a mixed sound file into individual performers or instruments. In your case what you may be able to do is shift your live performance so your voice on her bad recording lines up. Time Shift Tool — two sideways black arrows. You may get a little bubbling as the internet delays come and ...

Re: Recording with three mics at once issue?

You do have the possibility of USB Drift. The analog microphones all turn into digital in one place inside the mixer so they're OK, but USB microphones turn into digital internally or separate, so it's possible for the mixer and the USB microphone to drift out of time with each other. Multiple USB m...
